12 May 2025
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Doug Davies. After a long battle with cancer, Doug passed away peacefully on Friday morning, 9th April 2025 with his family by his side. He was the best husband to Sue and dad to Kathryn and James.—a truly great man who was deeply loved by so many.

Doug’s warmth, humour, and generosity of spirit touched everyone who knew him. He had an incredible ability to connect with people and was always willing to lend a hand or offer a kind word. His strength and resilience throughout his illness were nothing short of inspiring.

Doug was introduced to Underwater Hockey through his children and soon found himself in the pool alongside them, playing for the Phoenix Underwater Hockey Club. His passion for the sport and dedication to the community led him to join the Wellington Underwater Hockey Committee, where he initially served as Treasurer. For the past three years, Doug proudly took on the role of Chair, providing thoughtful leadership and unwavering support to players, volunteers, and fellow committee members.

Doug's legacy will live on through the lives he touched—on the pool deck, in his community, and most of all, in his family. We will miss his steady presence, his laugh, and the love he gave so freely.
Rest in peace, Doug.

20 April 2021
2021/2022 Central Zone U18 Coaches & Managers Appointments

WUHA has put together a Coaching Sub-Committee which has been designed to develop a plan for getting continuity with the association's coaches and a plan on how best to help our U18 Teams and Coaches consistently achieve top results.

WUHA's aim is for all 4 teams to bring back medals from the U18 Interzone Tournament.

WUHA will be appointing U18 Coaches for a two year period moving forward. The rationale behind this is to help both the coaches and the players to develop strong game plans, skills and consistency for the players around what is required of them and strong working relationships between Players/Coaches.

WUHA is now calling for applications for coaches and assistant coaches for the 2021 and 2022 U18 Interzone Championships.

We will be appointing coaches as follows:
  • There will be a head coach for each grade (boys/girls). It is expected that the head coach will take the lead on coaching both teams in the grade, however at the tournament they will be responsible for coaching the A team. They will also be responsible for working with WUHA to develop a plan leading up to the tournament and into 2022.
  • Once the head coach is appointed, WUHA will liaise with the coach and appoint 1 or 2 assistant coaches. The assistant coaches will work with the head coach and follow the head coaches coaching plan. They will be responsible for the B team at the tournament.
  • The head coach will take on a leadership role to help develop the assistant coaches over the 2 year period WUHA hopes this new approach will mean that we will obtain better results in future events.
