Becoming a Referee

 WUHA is always looking for more Referees, if you have a passion for the game and want to help develop the game apply to attend one of our Referee Courses.

​REFEREE PATHWAY
For referees in New Zealand there is a clear pathway to help you achieve your goals while contributing to the success and enjoyment of players, coaches and Spectators along the way.
The starting point for our men and women in the pool is at the grassroots where a Level One Referees Course will equip you to officiate schools and club matches. 


Level 1 Club/ School Referee courses 2022

There will be at least two 'Level 1' Referee Courses held in Wellington in 2022.  Course numbers are limited to a maximum of 32 participants per course.
Course 1
9th April 2022- Theory Lectures and Mini UWH League night- Huia Pool.
4th May 2022- Test revision Zoom session 7pm
10th May 2022-- L1 Test 6PM WRAC. 
 In-water during Mini and League nights under mentor referee supervision.
Arrange in-water referee assessment after completing 10 in-water and 5 chief referee matches and approval of your mentor referee.


Course 2, 2022
28th May 2022- Theory Lectures and Mini UWH League night- Huia Pool.
30th May 2022-  Test revision Zoom session 7:30 pm
31st May 2022-- L1 Test 6PM WRAC.   In-water during Mini and League nights.
 In-water during Mini and League nights under mentor referee supervision.

​Arrange in-water referee assessment after completing 10 in-water and 5 chief referee matches and approval of your mentor referee.
​

This course is the first level in the road to becoming a National and International Referee. The course is designed to develop players understanding of the rules and the application of these rules. It will also assist all teams to meet the tournament requirements to have at least 4 people holding a completed level 1 referee qualification. Tournament levies for non supply of referees is now set at $150 per referee with a further requirement to supply 4 referees per team.
